Vacant, city-owned land in Milton's east-side industrial park is almost gone now that another proposed development has received city council approval. The council unanimously agreed last week to sell 8 acres to Badger Properties for $1. In return, the developer will build a 60,000-square-foot light manufacturing and office facility at the northeast corner of County M and Putman Parkway, City Administrator Al Hulick said.

Two new stores are set to open this week in the redeveloped former Menards off Pontiac Drive on Janesville’s north side. Tara Furst, commercial properties manager for Galway Companies, which owns the property renamed the Marketplace at Janesville, said that by the end of the week, two tenants in the 72,000-square-foot building will be open for business.

Six local businesses won the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction’s inaugural Business Friends of Education award.

Fagan Automotive, Blackhawk Community Credit Union, Riverfront Inc., South Central Wisconsin Builders Association, SSI Technologies, all of Janesville, and MicroPrecision of Delavan were given awards for their commitment to local education, according to a news release from the Department of Public Instruction.

Local broker Commercial Property Group announced this week that Michigan tech and telecommunications company CCI Systems plans to locate engineering offices in space it will lease on the entire third floor of the 24,000-square-foot brick building on North Academy Street.

Construction on the Interstate 90/39 expansion from Madison to the state line will be finished one year ahead of schedule, according to a statement released Thursday by Gov. Scott Walker's office. The project will wrap up in fall 2021 instead of fall 2022, Steve Theisen, a project spokesman for the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, told The Gazette.
