(Rock County, WI) – A paid internship program for (incoming) Rock County high school seniors was announced during last week’s earn-and-learn talent development showcase event. The Rock Internship Program, which is designed to accelerate personal – as well as professional skills – development and facilitate career related exposure opportunities, is a collaborative effort between Blackhawk Technical College (BTC), Rock County 5.0 and the Southwest Wisconsin Workforce Development Board (SWWDB).

This structured, 4-week offering will provide students with a meaningful, career pathway experience that will serve as a foundational element of their Academic & Career Plan (ACP). Student ACP’s are the career preparation and readiness roadmaps developed through the Inspire Rock County platform. In addition to gaining direct career exposure at a worksite, interns will also have opportunities to: develop or improve communication, critical thinking, leadership and teamwork skills; facilitate important networking connections; and sharpen their interviewing, job searching and resume building experiences.

At the same time, participating employers can leverage this internship program as another resource to build, cultivate, diversify, shape and strengthen the area’s home-grown talent. This program also creates a great opportunity for employers to establish and/or further solidify connections with the education community, too.

The Rock Internship Program begins mid-June 2018, breaks for the July 4th Holiday week, and then concludes on July 20th. The program is open to service and goods producing businesses, representing for-and-non-profit employers, within the Greater Rock County area. Students interested in participating must be residents of Rock County and entering their senior year of high school. Student ACP’s, their Letters of Recommendation and other factors will be used to match-up employers with interns. Student applications are due April 20th.

For additional information, visit the program online and then contact the Internship Coordinator Kerry Osmond (608.757.7728 or kosmond1@blackhawk.edu).
